Irish Media Spreading Fear About Left Is Laughable

Oh politics is a dirty ole game isn't it? Not a week goes by without our beloved leaders having a whinge about how the "people" just don't understand. The media questioning the commitment of its readers. And of course, there's always RTEs fair and unbiased approach. The new enemy folks, is the left. People on the left are now being accused of railroading Ireland into oblivion. This isn't a case of yours truly being a tad over the top. Yesterdays Independent.ie report telling how Enda Kenny had a secret meeting with Michael Martin reads like a tell all novel written by a disgruntled unhappy man. The use of descriptive language to describe those on the left as being "militant" or "agitators" is similar to rhetoric used to describe hard line socialists or communists. Heck, they can be used to describe the far right too. Kennys worries are that there might be one or two people inside public sector unions who (wait for it) might actually want to see their pay restored and their working conditions improved. That's all it takes now to be considered "far left" in Ireland now. Here's the kicker though folks, "Speaking to the Sunday Independent last night, Housing Minister Simon Coveney also warned about the rise of left-wing populism in Ireland. "There has been a rise in the politics of street protests in Ireland and there has been a rise in small political parties and movements that spend most of their weeks thinking about when they are going to organise the next protest," Coveney said." Political parties are forming and are starting to get out on the streets, gaining momentum and pushing the state the end the status quo. Is that not the definition of a democracy? That's not even the best bit folks. It gets better. Remember this is an article bemoaning the rise of the left. "Independent Alliance sources have separately revealed how Fine Gael ministers have told them that they are concerned about the possibility of "groups of Trump-like supporters popping up all over Ireland"." "Trump-like supporters" ..... Trump being a conservative. A right winger if you will. For months we have been told that Trump supporters are "Alt Right" and now we are being told that Irish left wingers are "Trump like". Perhaps that is true. The majority of Trump voters did so to end the status quo. Irish social media is fuming over this and similar reports in the Irish Media. One commented "How dare the Irish people protest? How dare the parties of the left fight for the rights of the working class? Kenny is resorting to classic far right tactics.Trying to foment fear among the Irish electorate. The only one's who should fear the left are the politicians of the right!" While another mused "Things that make you part of the 'hard left':- Asking for your pay to be restored to what it was 6 years ago. So many radicals around now it's only a matter of time before they bring the whole economy and country down. Also, you can do the following and not be considered the 'hard right':- Cut workers pay- Cut workers' hours- Hand €60 billion to private banks and levy the repayments on children who haven't been born yet- Evict tens of thousands of families, leading to more than 2,000 homeless children- Cut spending on healthcare, housing, education, etc- Allow Ireland to be used as a tax haven - Privatise, well, everything really- Implement policies that lead to 1 in 10 suffering from food poverty- Implement policies that lead to the highest fuel poverty rates in the EU- Refuse to implement collective bargaining laws that are enjoyed by workers across the rest of the civilised world" What are your thoughts folks? Truthful Irish
