After two straight years of protesters screaming "hell no we won't pay" our esteemed Irish media still seem to think that Irish peoples opinions on Irish water is somehow still up in the air. The Journal.ie recent poll asking "Would you except a "modest" charge for water?" comes like a smack in the face of the literally hundreds of thousands who marched throughout Ireland. This poll comes shortly on the heels of a report stating that "some description of water charge must be in place" for Ireland to meet its EU obligations. As we know, what the EU want out weighs what the Irish people want. The response to the poll however has been somewhat predictable. As of time of writing

Results show that the no side with 57% and the yes side with 38%. These numbers are not too dissimilar with the average polls taken over the past two years. The main concern of people being the "eventual privatisation of Irish Water". The governments recent move to support a bill ensuring Irish Water never becomes a private company might have soothed the fears of some. It must be noted however, that the people want more. They have spoken and they refuse to accept billing for their water. The bill which would ensure Irish Water remains a public owned company does nothing to quash the idea of paying for water via billing. Slowly, the government and media have been working on the narrative that the privatisation of Irish Water is the ONLY issue concerning people. Social media users are already talking about this and are discussing ways of making the government see their side with even more marches being planned. Truthful Irish
